Donated after the war of 1870 and the Commune to quench the thirst of Parisians, the
Wallace Fountains were designed by the British philanthropist Richard Wallace (1818-1890)
and made by the sculptor Charles-Auguste Lebourg (1829-1906), as true works of art.
Generally dark green, these fountains were often constituted of four caryatids for as many
seasons, – and above all, delivered free drinking water.

You can discover two Wallace fountains on the avenue de Longueil in Maisons Laffitte: one
at the corner of Avenue de Longueil/Rue Masson and the other at the corner of Avenue
de Longueil/ Rue de Paris.
